On
his first visit to Trick Drums, a new, innovative drum
manufacturing company located in Schaumburg, Illinois, Joe
Cantafio noticed a huge American flag hanging over the
assembly area of the warehouse. Within a few minutes, Cantafio
was introduced to Mike Dorfman, owner, inventor, president and
CEO of Trick Drums.
Dorfman took Cantafio on a tour of the warehouse and showed
him how the drums were made. Cantafio expressed how impressed
he was with the flag hanging in the warehouse and Dorfman
explained that most of the people working for Trick Drums were
either Army or Marine Veterans.
Cantafio explained to Dorfman that he wanted a drum kit for
his band that screamed “troop support!” … something that would
be noticed from the audience that leaves no doubt what the
101st Rock Division is all about. Dorfman explained that
his late father was a highly decorated (Navy Cross, Purple
Heart) WWII Marine. His father served with Carlson’s Raiders
on Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and other Pacific battle fronts.
Dorfman enlisted the talents of his employees and a graphic
artist and created a photo history of the United States
Military on the six drums that 101st Rock Division drummer,
Tim Scruggs will play. The Marine tribute drum features a
photo of Cantafio’s cousin, Ryan J. Cantafio, USMC, who was
killed in action in Iraq in November of 2004. The Navy drum
features a photo of Mike Dorfman’s late father, Allen.
The cost of the drum kit is estimated at over $30,000.00. This
is a one-of-a-kind drum kit that will tour the world and
honors American Armed Forces who are serving to protect our
freedoms. |
